About the course

The course focuses on the study of graphic design as an applied art, as it applies to the wider field of still and moving images. At the same time, it provides specialized knowledge at a theoretical and practical level by creatively combining knowledge from the wider scientific fields of graphic arts, information design, advertising and visual creation. The course emphasizes the concept of representation, the process of creatively conceptualizing and exploring concepts about tangible or intangible products, understanding their target audience, and creatively rendering their identity. It then delves into writing visual language, handling the semiotics of representations, and producing integrated design propositions in the field of advertising and communication. At all stages, students are asked to understand and evaluate the qualities of the image, in relation to the medium in which it is projected, and the corresponding socio-cultural context that surrounds it.

The aim of the course is the search for the common places between graphic design, art, image. Students delve into the concept of advertising, develop skills related to formulating original and creative solutions that have practical application, while developing a set of technical and theoretical knowledge about design, construction of 'promise', the evaluation of the recipient audience, the production of imaginative works with a recognizable and distinct identity. The course is the sequence of the course Graphic Arts I: Identities, and prepares for the course Atmospheres: Visual Language and Conceptual Design, in which students have the opportunity to develop these skills further in a more complex context and create high-level projects in the field of information design and video art.
